Utility Billing
The Village of Mukwonago provides water and sanitary sewer services to most Village properties. To cover the costs needed to provide these services, the Village created a Water Utility and Sewer Utility. List below are the costs associated with operating these utilities as well as other information you may find useful.

Meter Reading & Billing Dates
- 1st Quarter: December-February
- 2nd Quarter: March-May
- 3rd Quarter: June-August
- 4th Quarter: September-November
Billing Dates: The billing for water and sanitary sewer is on the same bill. Bills are mailed out as follows:
- 1st Quarter: Mailed by 3/31
- 2nd Quarter: Mailed by 6/30
- 3rd Quarter: Mailed by 9/30
- 4th Quarter: Mailed by 12/31
*Bills are due at least 20 days after the date bills are mailed out. Billing periods are from the first day of each quarter to the last day of each quarter. Actual readings are taken for every account unless otherwise stated on bill. Bills are calculated based on water consumption (1,000 gallons) in addition to flat rates.
Payments & Penalties
Payment of Utility Bills
Acceptable methods of payment:
- Cash
- Check-made payable to Village of Mukwonago Water Utility.
- Credit/Debit Cards *service fees apply
Payment Locations:
- Village Hall during normal Office Hours. (440 River Crest Court, Mukwonago, WI)
- Deposited in the drop box located near the Northwest corner of the Village Hall, in the parking lot.
- Mailed to the Clerk’s Office at the following address (postmarks are accepted) 440 River Crest Court, Mukwonago, WI
- Credit/Debit card payment at Village Hall. (440 River Crest Court, Mukwonago, WI) *service fees apply
- EFT/ACH “e-checks” *service fees apply
Penalties
After the due dates, penalties are applied to the remaining balance. The penalties are charged quarterly and are as follows:
- Sewer Usage Charge and Sewer Service Charge – 10% Penalty.
- Water Usage, Water Service Charge, Public Fire Protection, Private Fire Protection, Garbage/Recycling Charges, Storm Water Charge – 3% Penalty.

Sample Billing Scenarios
The following are a few samples of what a quarterly utility bill will be. Water and Sanitary Sewer charges are based on consumption of water.
Utility bills are 8.5” x 11” invoices.
Example A
For a basic residence that uses 10,000 gallons of water in a quarter (Quarters 1, 2, and 4)
Water Charges
- Water consumption charge=10 x $4.95=$49.50
- Quarterly water service charge=$33.95
- Total water bill charge=$83.45
Sanitary Sewer Charges
- Sanitary sewer use charge=10 x $7.35=$73.50
- Sanitary sewer fixed charge=$40.82
- Total sanitary sewer bill charge=$114.32
Additional Charges
- Quarterly public fire protection charge=$34.69
- Quarterly recycling charge=$23.59
Total=$58.28
Example A-Total bill for water, sanitary sewer, public fire protection, and recycling=$256.05
Example B
For the same residence that used 10,000 gallons of water in the 2nd Quarter, but uses 50,000 gallons in the 3rd quarter from lawn sprinkling, car washing, etc.
Water Charges
- Water consumption charge (First 25,000 gallons consumed) =25 x $4.95=$123.75
- Water consumption charge (Next 25,000 gallons consumed) =25 x $4.59=$114.75
- Quarterly water service charge=$33.95
- Total water bill charge=$272.45
Sanitary Sewer Charges
- Sanitary sewer use charge (not more than the 2nd quarter amount) = 10 x $7.35=$73.50
- Sanitary sewer fixed charge=$40.82
- Total sanitary sewer bill charge=$114.32
Additional Charges
- Quarterly public fire protection charge=$34.69
- Quarterly recycling charge=$23.59
Example B-Total bill for water, sanitary sewer, public fire protection, and recycling=$445.05
Example C
For a business with a 1” meter and a 6” Private Fire Protection connection that uses 35,000 gallons in any quarter.
Water Charges
- Water consumption charge (First 25,000 gallons consumed) =25 x $4.95=$123.75
- Water consumption charge (Next 10,000 gallons consumed) =10 x $4.59=$45.90
- Quarterly water service charge=$52.41
- Total water bill charge=$222.06
Sanitary Sewer Charges
- Sanitary sewer use charge=35 x $7.35=$257.25
- Sanitary sewer fixed charge=$64.02
- Total sanitary sewer bill charge=$321.27
Additional Charges
- Quarterly public fire protection charge=$86.89
- Quarterly private fire protection charge=$145.00
